Pop-up shops are set to surge in the coming months, as more retailers look to leverage physical retail to drive customer loyalty and new customer engagement. To make selling in person easier for both entrepreneurs and seasoned sellers, Shopify is working with Stripe and Apple to help merchants securely accept payments using only their iPhone and the Shopify POS app for iOS.

Tap to Pay on iPhone is a new payment acceptance capability that lets you accept contactless credit and debit cards and digital wallets, such as Apple Pay, without any extra hardware. Powered by Shopify Payments, you can use your iPhone and accept payments wherever your customers are. Shopify Payments is PCI compliant and Tap to Pay on iPhone uses the built-in features of iPhone to keep your business and buyer data private and secure, so you and your customers can check out with peace of mind.

Tap to Pay on iPhone is currently in Early Access with select Shopify POS merchants. Full availability in the US is scheduled for the coming months.

This foundational work helps us create new features and improvements faster and help Shopify merchants thrive. 

Moving to React Native’s unified codebase means you’ll have access to the same Shopify POS features whether you use iOS and Android deviceslike push notifications for local pickup and delivery orders, secure remote login capabilities, and more. This is the best, most responsive and reliable version of Shopify POS yet.

While learning about products used to be done through supplier training sessions, meetings, or between staff, we think there’s a better way to share product information with staff across multiple store locations.

Metafields in Shopify POS are designed to help you equip store staff with the information they need to serve customers with confidence. You have complete control on what to include in metafields, making them a flexible tool for sharing detailed information, resolving questions quickly, and building trust with customers, while reducing dependency on managers and more tenured staff. 

Google Local Inventory sync

Searches including “shopping near me” on Google have grown three times over in the past two years. That’s why Shopify and Google are making it easier for merchants to be discovered by nearby shoppers, generate foot traffic, and grow their sales. 

Hundreds of thousands of merchants have used Shopify’s Google channel to list their products on Google for free, run Smart Shopping campaigns and boost conversion with Buy on Google. Now, you will also be able to sync your store’s product catalog with your Google Business Profile to help local shoppers find in-store product availability—all from within Shopify.

With Google local inventory sync, shoppers can see essential information like stock availability, store location, operating hours, directions, and local pickup or delivery options. Then, shoppers can walk into the store knowing that the product they want is in stock, or they can buy the item online without leaving Google. This makes it faster and easier than ever for merchants to reach new customers and for customers to find and buy from local merchants. 

We built this directly into Shopify’s Google channel to help merchants with a physical store get their stock in front of local shoppers at zero cost. When people search for businesses, listings can appear in Google Shopping, Google Search, and Google Maps. They can also pay for Local Inventory Ads to extend their reach.
